Specialized concrete mixes for Israel’s second-largest airport
Ramon Airport covers a total area of approximately 30,000 sq m and serves as the main gateway to southern Israel. Located about 22 km north of the city of Eilat, it supports both domestic and international tourism to the city and its surroundings, and provides an operational alternative to Ben Gurion Airport. The project was carried out for the Israel Airports Authority and included the paving of 3.6-km takeoff and landing runways, as well as the construction of transport areas, 54 aircraft parking stands, aviation infrastructure, and various access roads.
The desert climate posed a significant challenge for the on-site teams, as it required the use of materials capable of withstanding extreme temperatures. The concrete pavements also had to deliver high resistance to abrasion, solar radiation, and the heavy loads imposed by aircraft.
Israbeton supplied the project with over 150,000 cu m of specialized concrete mixes tailored for airfield pavements in desert climate conditions, as well as infrastructure-grade mixes for the construction of aircraft parking stands and runways. To enable continuous pours without unnecessary delays, Israbeton delivered the concrete at night, with added ice for cooling.
